Walking on Eggshells

Notes on the song lyrics

This is a reflective narrative on the painfulness of emotional blackmail in a relationship and the feeling you are 'walking on eggshells', often not knowing why or how to deal with it. The lyrics try to define someone vowing to confront their blackmailer and 'tread light no more'. However, not knowing what they are doing wrong and confused by all the weapons an emotional blackmailer has at their beckon, the victim fails and 'the paper tiger fades again'. This is a sad tale of someone who wants so dearly to break out of their desperate situation, but lacks the knowhow and strength to do so.

Lyrics

Walking on eggshells,
These feet tread light no more,
Walking on eggshells,
These lips stay sealed no more.

Chorus:
Tread light no more,
Turn cheek no more,
Count to ten no more,
Sleepwalk to war.

Walking on eggshells,
These feet tread light no more.

This paper tiger folds again,
A broken, useless toy,
My foetal position shields the pain,
Of this coward whipping boy.

Walking on eggshells,
Oh please remove this yoke.
Walking on eggshells,
From this weak and stunted oak.

Chorus:
Tread light no more,
Cap in hand no more,
Bite tongue no more,
Fear this dark no more.

Walking on eggshells,
These feet tread light no more.
